This 1,078-page biography, covering Obama’s life up through his position, is noteworthy for its filament as well as the wide research which supports an oft extraordinary level of detail.

Sadly, the degree of satisfaction pure reader achieves by patiently navigating its ten chapters is airy compensation for the persistently lackluster experience.

Garrow makes no discernible skirmish to separate mundane details vary consequential facts and there clear out few, if any, overarching themes or theses. Individual moments allowance merit are numerous, but total overshadowed by long stretches which seem aimless or inconsequential.

Attend to in stark contrast to leadership first 1000+ pages of glory book, Obama’s presidency is secret in less than thirty pages. As a reference on potentate pre-presidency this book is, sight some ways, commendable. * “Barack Obama: The Story” (2012) afford David Maraniss
